Erkki: Überwinterung im Nistkasten – Nein
Hello Dennis,
Thank you for your reply. I am a bumblebee enthusiast. I breed also commercially domestic bumblebees in Finland. My intention is to increase the Finnish species of bumblebees.
Greetings,
Erkki

>as far as I know and based on my experiences to this day, young queens never hibernate in the nest boxes, they always fly out to search for suitable hibernation sites.

>I think that nest boxes (in the natuold nests) are no suitable hibernation sites for young queens (e.g. because the place containing a nest is too big for that a young queen would consider it a good hibernation site, and also because in nature nest sites are very dirty after the colony perished because the bumblebees defecate into their nest and after approx. 4 month the nest is really dirty and full of parasites, so it would be no safe site for hibernation).

>May I ask what are your intentions about the bumblebees?
>It seems according to your former posts that you raise bumblebees in bigger scale since several years.
>Are you a (commercial) bumblebee breeder? Or a researcher?
