Your idea is good. Prefer to use plexi glass because the glass will result in more heat away from the nest. Pick the bumblebees up one by one with tweezers into jar for the time when you remove the wool around the nest. It’s easy when there is only a few of the workers and queen. I have kept several species in plexiglass boxes. Bumblebees are passed through a pipe in and out. They have been get out to the flowers. Observation box should be protected from light when not observing bumblebees.
