Hello,I have a question:My bombus terrestris nest have 120 workers The queen lays worker eggs at this time but is this normal? How long must i Wait before I wil have young queens in the nest?

B. terrestris can have very big nests, 120 is nothing for this bumble bee. Hopefully you have a very strong and healthy queen, so just be patient and keep on watching :-) Maybe in July or so?
My queen is very healty here body is very big and there is always new brood,I think that she want to have more workers to get help in the nest.

It depends strongly on the region. Here, in the Erzgebirge, I've never seen an nest with more than 250 individuals, normal colony strengh is 100-150 workers + males and queens.

Today I will come back from spain I hope after a week that i will see young queens or big larf in the nest.On my hummelhaus i have the anti washmotte, do the workers learn himself to open it because I was one week in spain and maybe the can't open it and the die from hunger is this possible?normal the workers can open it himself,the new workers don't no how to open it.
The workers are learning it by «learning by doing». They have to learn it when they leave for the first time. Only for the queen we made this training (closing it every day a little bit more), her workers are learning it very quickly. Some workers are learning very quickly, others will need more time. Or a sister will open it while the other bumble bee is trying to open it.
The bumble bees make also some pheromon markings on the Klappe so every bumble bee knows where to enter.
You only have to make sure that the entry is not going wet (it will stick) – that is why the bumble bee nest must be rain protected – and nothing is between the Klappe and the entry (pollen, other small stuff etc.) otherwise the Wachsmotte will be able to enter.

Today i look in the nest no big cocons only worker brood but al so no drones were in the nest.maybe i don't have look enough.
Here 2 video's you can see the queen lay eggs.And before I start to record The queen has kill a worker because he was eating here eggs!!! Aim happy because It was not me.So helena It was the queen not me.^^ There are bigger larf in the nest I think that the queen has start this week with queen and drone brood.The video's are some times bad because the bumblebees were attacking me.And the spray that you hear is for the waxmotte raupen.And it keeps the workers still because they are wet:

This is a very good looking terrestris nest, congratulations. And I think I saw some young queens. So then it is totally normal that the queen try to kill the egg laying workers and their eggs – but the time will come and the workers will kill their mother and lay male eggs. This is totally normal. Just keep on watching.
There are no young queens only big workers on the video you think that they are young queens but it are big workers

Yes I now but they were to agression to me and It is for the waxmotte raupen they are wet but if they go in the nest they spread it out and it can help to.
Today i have see big cocons and larve no drones.But I will have young queens in 10 days :) Finaly the queen has now reach hear dream she has complete her job now she will lay so fast as posible eggs to have more young queens.
Today i have make a video buth in the next days you wil see it,the nest has 180 workers and there are stil workers that come out.there is queen brood in the nest buth I must wait before they come out.The queen is healty she lays so much eggs that the workers some times must release some larve in the nest because there is no room enough.

Very nice! But still I could swear there are already some young queens. The very large ones.
This is possible buth there are still workers to be born.
The young queens are now above the nest resting.They are with 15 now.
The queen sthat you say helena were the big workers.
How mutch queen will come back next year?Normal the bombus terrestris is a bad returner.

The nest is ruin,The queen died the workers stop cleaning the nest.There is mold in the nest.
There are 20 queen cocoons that must come out.The young queens help the workers.
There are 15-20 young queens in the nest and 20-25 workers.
Tomorrow,i wil cut the brood out of the nest and remove the old pieces.I give them also sugar water.And clean the nest.I wil make a video.

Hallo zusammen,
nach langer Pause möchte ich auch mal kurz einen kleinen Überblick über die Saison hier im Erzgebirge geben.
4 Erdhummelvölker mit Arbeiterinnen sind mir Ende April nach einem recht kalten Frühjahr geblieben.
Leider ist eine Königin (Dunkle Erdhummel) aus unbekannter Ursache später gestorben, sodass diese Kolonie drohnenbrütig wurde. Meine beiden anderen Dunklen Erdhummeln konnten sich derweil positiv weiterentwickeln, wenngleich es immer wieder Übergriffe von anderen Königinnen gab. Das schwächere Nest habe ich später mit Arbeiterinnenbrutwaben aus dem königinnenlosen Nestes etwas "verstärkt", um hier das Volk etwas zu unterstützten, was auch erfolgreich funktionierte. Beide Nester stehen mittlerweile vor ihrem Höhepunkt, es gibt reichlich Brut von Geschlechtstieren, erste Jungköniginnen fliegen bereits. Diese beiden Völker sind allerdings für hiesige Verhältnisse eher klein bis mittelstark. Nest 1 bringt es auf etwa 150 Arbeiterinnen, Nest 2 auf etwa 110. Viel mehr als 200 Arbeiterinnen haben aber selbst starke Nester hier kaum.
Nest 3 (Kryptarum-Erdhummel) hat sich prächtig entwickelt und 170-190 Arbeiterinnen umfasste das Volk zum Höhepunkt vorletzte Woche, zusammen mit zahlreichen Königinnen und Drohnen (gesamt um 240 Tiere), was für diese Art sehr beeindruckend ist. Die Tiere haben sich allerdings durch eine Styroporwand gefressen und dabei auch Wachsmotten den Zugang zum sonst sehr gut geschützten Nest ermöglicht. Letzte Woche dann konnte ich - trotz oberflächlich sehr gutem Eindruck vom Nest - massiven Wachsmottenbefall nachweisen. Ich habe sofort befallene Brutwaben entfernt und mit BT behandelt. Ob es funktioniert hat, bleibt abzuwarten. Wäre schön, wenn das starke Volk noch einiges an Geschlechtstieren hervorbringen könnte.
Außerdem konnte ich Anfang Mai eine Steinhummel ansiedeln, welche mittlerweile ein schönes Völkchen hervorgebracht hat. Etwa 40 Tiere sind vorhanden, kommendes Wochenende solltes es bereits 60-70 sein (gemäß Brutwaben). Auch das Nest macht einen sehr vitalen und gesunden Eindruck und sollte sich positiv weiterentwickeln.
Auch sonst sieht man regelmäßig Hummeln, nicht so viele wie letztes Jahr, aber bedeutend mehr als in der katastrophalen Saison 2010. Also durchschnittlich gutes Hummeljahr bis jetzt...

Die nächsten 3 Tage werden hier in Berlin sehr heiss (30-31 Grad). Da werden meine Steinhummeln wieder leiden. Habe das Gefühl, dass Kälte nicht annähernd so ein Problem darstellt wie Hitze. Ich hoffe mein Volk schafft das irgendwie!
Täglich fliegen seit dem 23. jetzt Drohnen ab. Bisher habe ich jedoch noch nicht eine Jungkönigin gesehen :-(
Gibt es Königinnen, welche nur Drohnen erzeugen/erzeugen können? (Die Altkönigin ist noch im Kasten und fit)

Wenn der Kasten schon voll im Schatten steht – auch morgens –, kannst Du fast nichts mehr machen. Darum ist ein Kasten mit ausreichend Belüftungslöchern unbedingt empfehlenswert!
Hmm, vielleicht fressen die Arbeiterinnen bereits alle Eier der Altkönigin auf und legen nur noch selber Eier... Nun, auch Drohnen tragen ihren Teil dazu bei, die Gene des Volkes weiterzutragen.

I had a ackerhummelnest with workers that lay eggs I killed them And there was a lot of new brood in the nest With a lot new queens i hope.that i have help you

Das mit dem Eierfressen leuchtet mir ein. Das erklärt das Fehlen von Jungköniginnen. Nun ja, Drohnen sind auch wichtig :-((
Gil in my opinion is it not a good idea to kill workers just because they’re attacking the queen or so! This is the nature; bumble bees are protected species (i hope so in your country too) so this is not OK what you are doing; it is illegal to kill bumble bees!!!
If you can’t live with the circumstances that workers will lay eggs and attacking the queen, do not keep these animals in houses!
I think it is necessary for the Gen pool, that also the workers can lay eggs. 50% from their DNS Information is not from the Queen.
So, gil, when you will help the bumble bees, let the workers lay their eggs.

Okay aim wrong but if the workers attack to fast the queen then you can remove them and let them 5 km farther free without killing them.If the queen has died from to old then its okay .of if the queen has lay enough eggs it's okay for me.If you can have a better sucsesfull nest with removing some workers without killing them WY NOT? If the nest has no new queens i wil do this in emergency
This is not an emergency, this is nature. So please STOP to kill them or even put them out of the nest. As I said this is illegal if these animals are protected in your country. Read Christian’s comment, it is true! It is better for the Genetic pool that also the workers can lay eggs to get male bumble bees. This is just how the world goes... PLEASE stop, do not play «God». As i said, otherwise stop keeping bumble bees at all. It is not funny...
Helena: you are making this verry bad i don't kill al the workers or put them away .You don't have to say that I must stop keeping bumblebees because i want that my nest's are sucsesfull i put so mutch money in it to give the queen a home in the spring.And the queen here (dream) job is to produce a next generation of queens and I say it for the 100 times i don't kill workers i never have do this ,this year.And if in emergency the queen has no produce new queens and there are workers that eat here eggs i will help the queen.If she has not produce new queens then the nest was maked for noting only drones are born and no queens then aim noting with the nest and the nest is lost THEN THE QUEEN HERE JOB WAS FOR NOTING !!!

Maybe it is just your english writing but there you were writing you will help you queen and kill aggressive workers or workers laying eggs. You HAD a ackerhummelnest and killed the workers laying eggs? That was in the past?
If this is a misunderstanding, sorry but sometimes it is difficult to understand your english.
The year before i have remove some workers and i had a lot of queens.the workers have produce al so to a lot of drones after the queen has died from oldnes this year i don't have kill or remove workers.But the queen here job is to have a next generation of new queens.Some workers become to fast agression to the queen And attack loyal workers to.But wy do the workers become agression to the queen?
Maybe the queen is weak or sick and is not producing enough pheromones. Normally that happens when the competition point is reached; new males and females are being produced and the workers are not willing to work so hard anymore. Every queen will die in the nest so there is nothing we can and should do.

I have no luck to with my nest after that she had here first workers she was gone the queen and the year before they died because it was to hot and the flowers don't produce enough nectar
Ja, das geht mir auch so: erst auf dem Foto erkennt man alles in Ruhe.
Das an der Wand kann tatsächlich schon eine der Jungköniginnen sein, die versammeln sich da gerne mal.
